What can I tell you about Chantel Harris that will make you want to read this book? Whatever it is, please imagine me saying it. Chantel is a fabulous friend…but has few friends. Her best friend, Jill, a female police officer, was killed on duty. Chantel, also a cop, was the first responder.

She never expects things for herself, she only asks how she can help others. She’s the kind of friend we all want. Yet most of her friends are the male policemen with whom she works. She’s most comfortable being one of them. She’s not a girly girl. Isn’t into make-up and highlights and pedicures. (Don’t worry, I am and I still felt like I wanted to be best friend’s with Chantel!) She’s the one who always calms the drama.

If you haven’t read previous Where Secrets Are Safe books, I hope you give this one a try. The series is not inter-related. The stories don’t interact with each other. They’re all set in a fictional California coastal town and revolve around a unique women’s shelter. Chantel is actually a new girl in town. She visited the town in book three, Husband By Choice, to help Jill’s widower when his second wife goes missing.

Now a member of the Santa Raquel High Risk Team, she goes undercover to ensure the safety of a boy and his mother, and ends up finding something horrible going on in the wealthy society she infiltrates. I didn’t know, when I started this book, what was going to happen. I didn’t know until the end how it was going to end. I didn’t even know if the bad guy was bad. Chantel took care of it all. She took care of me. And she’ll take care of you, too, if you give her a chance!
