guestpost

The one thing that’s a constant in my writing is the emotional angst. I don’t set out to put it there. To the contrary, there are times when I set out to write an easy romp. Something light that just feels good. It never happens. I open the door to my mind and stuff pours out. Of its own accord. This malady makes it a little difficult for me to fit in.

Most people don’t want to be doused with intensity as they go about the business of living their daily lives. The cashier at JoAnn’s Fabrics really doesn’t need to carry the weight of my perceptions about everyone I’ve been watching while waiting in line – the one who’s angry and impatient and all about her; the one who’s worried about something; the one who’s kind and happy and willing to be patient because it makes her happy to help the situation…(well maybe that one the cashier would like to hear about).

I learned quite young – grade school is my first conscious recollection – to live my life mostly in my own little world. And then I found Harlequin Books. Heaven. A place where my emotions and perceptions, as well as the stories they tell, were welcome. Needed. Expected. Wanted. Honored. These books became my home. The venue through which I was understood. The place where I could contribute good to the world.

And now Harlequin has given me even more. Harlequin Heartwarming is about the ‘heart’ of it all. These books are not ‘sweet’ books – they’re books that look at life through the emotions we feel. They get to the heart of the matter. They’re ‘clean’ books – no sex on the page – not because the characters are lacking in that area, but because the focus of these books is all on the emotions. Not the body parts. I firmly believe that body parts are a valid, and valued part of life. I’m still writing them in my Superromances and MIRA suspense titles where they fulfill the story. And I’m thrilled to be spending time in this new Heartwarming world as well. Where my heart can spill forth freely! I hope you find the result a blessing in your life.

They’re a team…not a couple!
Falling for Liam was unthinkable. He and Gabi had been best friends since college, nothing more. And crucially, now Liam was her client and needed her to be focused on his case. Gabi could never risk their friendship — or Liam’s freedom — over these feelings. They could never be a couple, anyway. He was Liam Connelly, the handsome and privileged son of a billionaire. She was Gabrielle Miller, the girl who’d fought her way out of poverty and put herself through law school. They were unlikely friends to begin with. Anything more was impossible.

Anyone could be hiding a secret…
Marie Bustamante does not trust or love easily. Growing up with a philandering father and an overprotective mother, she comes by her reservations honestly. So after only three months, how can she be falling for her best friend’s bodyguard? This isn’t like her at all. But Elliott Tanner is strong, gorgeous and…trustworthy. Honest. At least he seems to be. Of course, some things about him remain a mystery. Protecting the privacy of his clients is Elliott’s job. That doesn’t mean he’s hiding anything from her. Does it?

  1. I hadn’t thought about adding angst to the emotional description, but it fits. Tara’s short today had plenty of emotional angst… two people who were hurting and yet could ‘heal’ themselves just by recognizing love for what it really is – togetherness.

    Good job, Tara.

  2. Tara, it’s a beautiful story. For me personally, the holidays are stressful and I’m usually yelling at my husband for not helping enough but this story will remind me that it’s also a time to connect. Thank you for sharing this with us.

  3. Tara, what a wonderful post! I love your thoughts about Heartwarming and the bit of insight into what makes you tick ( : And an absolutely heart-wrenching story. You are such a talented writer, it’s no surprise you were able to convey so much in such a small space!

I am so enjoying how different each story in this promotion is.

Also, Brooke – I love this site!
