Been Here All Along
Sandy Hall
Publication date: August 30th 2016
Genres: Contemporary, Romance, Young Adult
Gideon always has a plan. His plans include running for class president, becoming head of the yearbook committee, and having his choice of colleges. They do NOT include falling head over heels for his best friend and next door neighbor, Kyle. It’s a distraction. It’s pointless, as Kyle is already dating the gorgeous and popular head cheerleader, Ruby. And Gideon doesn’t know what to do.
Kyle finally feels like he has a handle on life. He has a wonderful girlfriend, a best friend willing to debate the finer points of Lord of the Rings, and social acceptance as captain of the basketball team. Then, both Ruby and Gideon start acting really weird, just as his spot on the team is threatened, and Kyle can’t quite figure out what he did wrong…

Five songs that remind me of a character
This was such a fun challenge. I decided to use Gideon from BEEN HERE ALL ALONG. Here are his five songs:
Everyone is Gay by a Great Big World
Because I imagine that he would find some comfort in this happy, peppy song as he’s realizing he himself is gay.
It Comes Back to You by Imagine Dragons
This song reminds me of Gideon and Kyle together. What their friendship means to them and what being more than friends means to them. Also when I was telling one of my friends about this book in its very early stages, she pointed me towards this song, so it’s always been very connected to this story for me.
What a Good Boy by Barenaked Ladies
Gideon wants nothing as much as he wants to be thought of as a “good boy.” Or a good person really. And he works hard at it.
Something’s Missing by Geronimo
Spoiler Alert: Gideon would definitely would put this on his playlist about Kyle.
You Belong With Me by Taylor Swift
This song actually inspired this book originally. While the story strayed from the lyrics, it will always be very connected to Gideon and Kyle in my mind.
