Life has been complicated for Sydney Ross. Desperate for a new start, she leaves home but, during her travels, witnesses something that will forever alter the path of her life. On the run for the last six years, Sydney finds herself living the life of a nomad until she one day stumbles into a small town and hopes she’s finally found a place to put down roots. With a good job in a local diner and, for the first time ever, friends who feel like family, things start looking up for Sydney. The biggest shock of all is catching the eye of the town’s most eligible bachelor, the sexy sheriff, Wade Jenkins.

Sparks fly between them, and it’s not long before Sydney believes Elton, Missouri could be the home she’s always wished for. But Sydney’s past and her secrets have a way of catching up with her. When a brutal murder shakes the small town, Sydney is terrified that the countdown has begun on her time in Elton.

Have the shadows from her past found her again? The people who mean the most want her to stay, but that would put everyone, including her daughter, at risk. Can Sydney put her faith in Wade or will she keep running from a danger that even she doesn’t fully understand?

guestpost
Thanks for having me do a guest post! I wanted to talk about something I love and it was a no brainer- books. So I sat down one day to come up with a Top Ten list but was really struggling. Then I ran into a dear friend, Agnes Whittman from CONCEALED, and here’s what happened next…

Agnes: You got your nose behind that computer again, V?

V: Yes, I’m working on something.

Agnes: You’re always working on something.

V: I know but this is for a blog tour I’m doing for CONCEALED.

Agnes: I’ve read some of the reviews you know. People think I’m pretty hilarious.

V: They do, Agnes. How can you not love someone who shoots the hat off a teenager, packs a gun in her purse just to go to church and has emergency protocols in place for any number of natural disasters?

Agnes: Exactly! I’m quite lovable.

V: And scary.

Agnes: Only to trespassers and solicitors.

V: You gonna eat that pie?

Agnes: Do you have a tapeworm or something? Cara, give me another fork, V’s stealing my pie again.

V: *mumbles* We’re sharing, Agnes.

Agnes: I’m gonna get Wade involved if you eat more than half. *glances at the screen* You makin’ some sort of list?

V: Yes, it’s supposed to be my top ten book series.

Agnes: How many you got?

V: 34

Agnes: Editing is important…

V: Shut up, Agnes.

Agnes: You’re never gonna be able to cut that list down to ten. You love your books.

V: *sighs* I know.

Cara: She’s obsessed with books!

Agnes: Of course I’ve never seen the girl turn a page. She’s always got her face in that crazy electronic thing of hers.

V: I turn pages. I swipe my fingers across the screen…

Agnes: *rolls her eyes* You know what I mean. Back in the olden days we had these small piles of papers that was held together with binding… remember that Cara?

Cara: Yes, the font was small and the half-naked men on the cover sometimes made them difficult to read out in public…

Agnes: *eyebrows raised* What books you been reading there, Cara? Pete, you letting your wife read erotica?

Pete: Wait, what? No, Cara likes to read westerns—books about cowboys and ranchers.

*V & Agnes share a knowing look*

V: Right, westerns.

Agnes: Naked westerns!

Cara: Oh stop it, both of you. We were talking about V and all her books.

Agnes: You really do need to get your nose out of the books for a while V. Just the other day you missed those hunky construction workers that came into town to help Luke. Remember them, Cara?

Cara: *fans herself* Yes, I do.

V: You both remember I’m married, right?

Agnes: Well you ain’t dead, and those boys were fine enough that you should have dropped your electronic book the second those tight tushes strolled into the diner. Nicest bodies we’ve had through this place in months.

Cara: Did you notice the size of their hands?

V: You know that’s a myth.

Agnes: I did some recon. On those two, it was accurate.

V: Recon? *chokes* I don’t wanna know.

Agnes & Cara *cackle* No you don’t.

V: Well as interesting and emotionally scarring as this conversation has been, I have to somehow narrow this list of my favorite series down.

Agnes: Fine, but you don’t get any more pie.

Cara: *Peeks over V’s shoulder* You got any cowboys on that list, V?

V: *grins* Yep, but I don’t know if they’ll make the top ten.

Cara: They’d definitely make my top ten….

Agnes: Pete… by any chance, did Cara ever buy you a cowboy hat?

While Cara and Agnes laughed, I managed to narrow the list, mainly so I didn’t have to ever find out if Pete had a pair of chaps to go with that hat of Cara’s! There were so many others that could have easily made the list, but these are really my go-to books. If I’m on vacation, these are what I’m reading…
