My Thoughts
Deadly Reception is the first book I’ve read by author Karen Randau. Even though it is novella-length, and I wasn’t familiar with the characters when I started, I was quickly able to lose myself in the story. This felt more like a straight mystery to me rather than a cozy mystery. While not particularly gruesome, there were some unsettling descriptions at the beginning, and the book involves a serial killer (which is something you do not see in a cozy mystery). The story quickly unfolded and the author managed to pack a lot of story into this novella. I would read other books by this author, and I would also check out the other books in the Tawnee Mountain Mysteries series.

Karen Randau is the author of the Rim Country Mystery series. Her fast-paced novels include Deadly Deceit, Deadly Inheritance, and Deadly Choices, each with intricate plots and lots of action and told from the point of view of protagonist Rita Avery.
