JJ MacGregor's very bad day has just gotten a lot worse.

JJ thought starting the day without coffee was a disaster, but now there's a dead musician behind the Pismawallops High School gym. His trombone is missing, and something about the scene is off key. JJ and Police Chief Ron Karlson are determined to get to the bottom of the mystery, but will they be able to work harmoniously or will discord ruin the investigation? With the music teacher as the prime suspect, JJ could be left to conduct the band, and then Graduation might truly end in a death by trombone, or at least the murder of Pomp and Circumstance!

Be sure to pick up the first book in the Pismawallops PTA series, Death By Ice Cream. It’s on sale for just 99cents!

My Thoughts

Death By Trombone by Rebecca M. Douglass is the second book in the Pismawallops PTA series. The series takes place on Pismawallops Island in the Puget Sound, off the coast of the state of Washington. Pismawallops Island is fictional, but Douglass paints a very realistic setting. The setting and the wonderful characters really make this book enjoyable.

In this outing, JJ finds herself embroiled in another murder when a musician turns up dead. I really like the character of JJ. She stands up for herself, usually says just what she is thinking, and she’s smart with just the right amount of attitude. She is one of those characters that I find myself wishing she was real so we could be friends. 🙂 Ms. Douglass has a great protagonist in JJ and I thoroughly enjoyed tagging along as JJ works to solve the mystery, along with Ron Karlson, the police chief.

If you enjoy small-town settings, a fast-paced mystery and a sassy sleuth, you need to pick up the Pismawallops PTA mystery series. I am currently reading the first book in the series because I enjoyed the second one so much. Death By Trombone by Rebecca M. Douglass is a great cozy mystery with a unique setting.
