Death With All the Trimmings by Lucy Burdette
The only snow in Key West this Christmas is Hayley Snow, food critic for Key Zest magazine, who is not getting time off for the holiday…or time off from murder.
It may be Christmastime, but thoughts of peace on earth, good will toward men, don’t seem to extend to the restaurant biz. Hayley has been assigned to interview Edel Waugh, chef/owner of Key West’s hottest new restaurant. But off the record, Edel reveals someone’s sabotaging her kitchen and asks Hayley to investigate.
Things heat up fast when the restaurant is set on fire—and a body is discovered in the charred wreckage. Is someone out to destroy the chef’s business—or actually kill her? Amid holiday festivities like the lighted boat parade and visiting relatives who stir up mixed emotions, Hayley needs to smoke out an arsonist and a killer who may turn up the heat on her next…

What’s It About? by Lucy Burdette
I have a brand new book out on December 2, a foodie murder mystery set in Key West (DEATH WITH ALL THE TRIMMINGS, NAL.) But the other day, someone asked me to describe in 100 words or less why readers, especially women, would want to pick it up.
Yikes!
When I’ve spent a year or more coming up with a 75,000 word story, how in the world could I distill it into a sentence? But I thought and thought and came up with this: DEATH WITH ALL THE TRIMMINGS is about friendship and family and food and competition and spending Christmas a long way from home. Oh, and there’s a murder mystery tucked in there too!
And since Brooke didn’t insist on the short version, I’ll tell you a little bit more. Food critic Hayley Snow has landed the interview of her career, talking with and observing a top chef who’s moved from New York City to Key West. She soon discovers that the chef’s been experiencing sabotage in her kitchen. With the occurrence of a fire and a murder, things whirl out of control from there. Hayley’s mom has come to the island for the winter season too, and Hayley finds the familial tables turned when she has to counsel her mother about her love life, instead of the other way around.
These Key West books are mysteries so I absolutely understand that I need a body. And suspects. And clues. And theories about the murder. But even more important than solving the puzzle, I’m hoping readers will fall in love with my character Hayley Snow. I hope they’ll feel the shock she does when she sees her exboyfriend out to dinner with a new woman. And feel her heart sink when she thinks the job of a lifetime has slipped away. And I hope I’ve made the magic of Key West at Christmas come alive. And I hope readers will fall for Hayley’s family and friends too, and then want to read the next book in the series and recommend the books to friends.
How’s that for 100 words?
