We have all had things we have failed at. Maybe we didn’t succeed at something new we tried to do, maybe we weren’t chosen as the ‘winner’ at something, maybe we didn’t get the promotion we wanted. Every failure is a lesson. I think it’s important to learn from the things we don’t succeed at – sometimes, those are the strongest lessons.
I also think it’s important to teach our kids about failure. It seems like a lot of things are in place to shield our kids from being singled out, to learn how to lose at something – which ultimately makes them better at winning. Everyone on the team gets a trophy now for participation. I want my kids to know that it is okay to stumble and fall. What matters most is getting back up after a ‘failure’ and knowing that you tried your best, and you’ll try again.
