I drew closer, keeping an eye out for any sign of my intrusion being unwelcome.
“What’s she doing here?”
“She lives here. In the gorge. Come and see.”
“I don’t think she likes me.”
“You just frightened her, that’s all.”
“I frightened her?”
“Come, you’ll both be fine.”
Walking around the pile of ashes from last night’s fire, I approached the edge of the cliff from Victor’s side while Neep kept all four of her eyes on me. The sound of rushing hooves and passionate whinnies wafted up from the canyon on a breeze. I craned my neck to see a herd of mustangs galloping through. Leading the hundred or more magnificent animals, three Diporaxes glided above the herd.
I turned to Victor. “So let me get this straight. The ones with no wings are the Thoruxes, and the ones with wings and four eyes are the Diporaxes, correct?”
“Correct,” he agreed and mounted Neep.
“Why don’t they all have wings?”
“There’re only a few Diporaxes born every year. They’re the guardians of the herd. Their job’s to keep an eye out for danger.”
“Tulliat told me that once they’re domesticated, they can never return to the wild. How come Neep isn’t back at the village?”
“She’s free and wild … like me. Only comes when I call her.”
“Did you call her now?”
He bobbed his head with an impish expression.
“No, no, no. Don’t even think about it,” I objected without waiting for him to say the words.
“You’re not scared on my Ducati.”
“That’s different. She’s a live animal with her own will, while your Ducati is a machine.”
“Have I ever let anything bad happen to you?”
“You let me slip out of your arms.”
“True, but now I’m a hundred percent in control of the situation. Come.”

I’m a Hungarian born American writer, who was lucky enough to travel Europe, Africa, and The Middle East and live in Ecuador, Crete and Italy. I graduated as a computer engineer, thus if anybody tells you math and literature can’t walk hand in hand, don’t believe them. *smile*
I’m the author of the Fields of Elysium saga, which I like to call a young adult romantic fantasy. The first book of the series was inspired by amazing movies like Dirty Dancing, Avatar, and Twilight and earned praise from prestigious review companies and readers. I’m currently working on book three and four, and planning to write one more novella to finish the series, dedicated to another very interesting character in my story, The Prophet, the mysterious leader of the Arkanians.
