Edward "Easy" Cantrell knows better than most the pain of not being able to save those he loves--which is why he is not going to let Jenna Dean out of his sight. He may have just met her, but Jenna's the first person to make him feel alive since that devastating day in the desert more than a year ago.
Jenna has never met anyone like Easy. She can't describe how he makes her feel--and not just because he saved her life. No, the stirrings inside her reach far beyond gratitude.
As the pair are thrust together while chaos reigns around them, they both know one thing: the things in life most worth having are the hardest to hold on to.
Hard to Hold On To by Laura Kaye is a novella in the Hard Ink series. This is the first I’ve read in this series…and Oh.Em.Gee. I freakin’ loved this so much! Easy is such a great guy…strong, smart, sweet, tender and damaged. He and his Special Forces teammates were discharged under bad circumstances and have been trying to untangle the web of corruption that framed them. Jenna was kidnapped by the Church gang, and Easy and his team were part of the group that rescued her. Jenna feels safe when she’s with Easy. And Easy feels safe with her, too.
This story deals with some dark issues, including suicidal thoughts and statistics of suicide among service members. However, these issues are dealt with in a tactful and informative manner. The issues fit into the story seamlessly.
I loved watching Easy and Jenna’s feelings for each other develop. It was beautiful and sexy, heartfelt and hot. So many times throughout the story, I just wanted to give Easy a hug. He’s just a genuine nice guy who is hurting.
I enjoyed this story so much, and will be picking up the other Hard Ink books when I can. Laura certainly has a hold on the contemporary romantic suspense genre with this series. Hard to Hold On To by Laura Kaye will be released on August 19th. She will be donating all of her proceeds from the first two weeks of sales to the Wounded Warrior Project! Be sure to pick up your copy today for a great story and a great cause.
