Two strangers...

Makenna James thinks her day can't get any worse, until she finds herself stranded in a pitch-black elevator with a complete stranger. Distracted by a phone call, the pin-striped accountant catches only a glimpse of a dragon tattoo on his hand before the lights go out.

Four hours...

Caden Grayson is amused when a harried redhead dashes into his elevator fumbling her bags and cell phone. His amusement turns to panic when the power fails. Despite his piercings, tats, and vicious scar, he's terrified of the dark and confined spaces. Now, he's trapped in his own worst nightmare.

One pitch-black elevator...

To fight fear, they must reach out and open up. With no preconceived notions based on looks to hold them back, they discover just how much they have in common. In the warming darkness, attraction grows and sparks fly, but will they feel the same when the lights come back on?

bookreview
Hearts in Darkness by Laura Kaye is the first book in a duology and man, does it bring the heat. Makenna and Caden end up trapped in an elevator together. They are strangers, but not for long. Caden is a wounded man – he has a harrowing tale of survival as a teen. As a result, he is claustrophobic in closed in, dark spaces. A broken elevator is right at the top of his worst nightmare list.

The mere scent of Makenna and the sound of her voice soothe Caden and keep him from going off the edge into full-fledged panic mode. The more they talk and get to know each other during their time in the elevator, the more they discover how much they have in common. Without sight in the pitch-black elevator, their other senses are heightened.

Lots of people don’t believe in love at first sight…but I do. And in this case, with Caden and Makenna, sparks fly from the minute those elevator doors close. I absolutely loved this hot, erotic love story. Laura Kaye paints a picture of two souls coming together exactly when they needed one another. Their attraction to one another is electric and palpable – I could almost feel the heat coming through my Kindle.

Caden – beautiful, sexy, wounded Caden – is my first official book boyfriend of 2016. He is strong but vulnerable…serious but smart-assy…tough but sweet. And the tattoos and piercings make him sexy as hell. I can’t wait to read the second book in the duology – Love in the Light.
