You’re probably wondering why the Tourist Trap theme for all my books. I love traveling. I have a map with all the states listed that I still need to visit. Guidebook to Murder, book one of the Tourist Trap series came out of one of these impromptu trips.
I was considering the state of my marriage, well, to be honest, I was thinking about my upcoming divorce. I took spring break and went to my sister’s in California. Driving has always given me clarity when I was trying to make a decision or just figure out a way to deal with issues.
When I started visiting the different tourist spots, I found an old run down house that could be perfect, with a bunch of money and a lot of elbow grease. The marriage dissolved and I started doing things I’d always wanted to do, like learn how to write a book.
I’d taken a picture of the old house and I kept it taped on the wall next to my computer. I had no idea why, until over five years later, I realized there was a story there. And when I build a story, there’s lots of side characters just waiting for their own stories to be told. Or more bodies to be found in the case of the mysteries. 🙂
So that’s the story of how the series started, with a drive up the Pacific Coast Highway and me trying to put some meaning to my pain.
Murder on Wheels is the sixth book in the series. And in this book, I explore the new hobby my (new) husband’s buddy made us try –geocaching.
What I’ve found in writing the series is that I love visiting with my new imaginary friends in South Cove. I hope my readers feel the same.
