A Lexi Carmichael Mystery #10
Carina Press • January 8, 2018

Geek girl Lexi Carmichael has tackled her share of formidable tasks, but nothing quite as daunting as serving as maid of honor at her best friend’s wedding…

When I agreed to stand by my best friend, Basia, on her big day, I had no idea what I was in for. Bouquets and unflattering evening wear I can handle. But between disgruntled dates, a beach venue and suspicious packages, what else can go wrong? Oh, right–my parents don’t know I’ve moved in with Slash. Oops?

Thankfully, I’ve got everything semi under control, at least as far as Basia and Xavier know. They can leave for their honeymoon happy, knowing Elvis, Slash and I will keep things safe at home.

Meanwhile, Elvis and Xavier’s boss at ComQuest has asked X-Corp–well, me–to take a quick trip to retrieve a sensitive company package from the British Virgin Islands. No hacking involved. Just show up, accept the package and bring it home safely. A cushy assignment, and a safe one. Right?

Wrong. Things start to unravel the minute I set foot on the boat to the island. Before I know it, I’m up to my neck in thugs, sand and trouble. I’m going to have to work fast to stop the bad guys before the sun sets for good on this unexpected beach vacation…

Meet Geek Girl Lexi Carmichael (and Giveaway!)

Hello, everyone. I’m Lexi Carmichael, a twenty-five-year-old geek girl. I spend my days stopping computer hackers, gaming and living my life online. My nights? Those I spend avoiding my mother and eating cereal for dinner. Even though I work in a top-secret industry, until one year ago, I was a desk jockey who barely saw the sun. I’d never been in an exciting car chase, sipped a stirred (not shaken) martini, or shot a poison dart from an umbrella. In fact, I was twenty-one before I got my driver’s license, twenty-four before I bought something other than white cotton underwear, twenty-five before I went on my first real date, and I’m still afraid to go shopping alone.

I’ll be honest, I’m not a people person. Most people annoy me. It’s not that I’m anti-social—I’m just not user-friendly. In fact, I’d rather endure twenty-six pap smears than be forced into small talk—yes, even with you.

Yet somehow, as I muddle along in my career, my path collides with brilliant hacking twins, a sexy government secret agent, a rich, handsome lawyer and lots and lots of bad guys. Hacking, espionage, sexy men—it’s a geek girl’s dream come true…as long as it’s online. When it’s happening in real life, it’s a lot for a girl to handle.

Now I’m traveling around the world from Rome to Indonesia to Africa to Egypt stopping cybercriminals for the U.S. government and trying not to look too dorky while I’m doing it. I’m even dating, which is a miracle, and making a good faith effort to interact with others outside of my safe virtual cocoon. It’s not an easy path, especially since my newfound friends believe a little black cloud is following me around, but I’m trying. That’s me—saving the world, one brain at a time.
