Party with a PlanParty With a Plan by Randy Haveson

Finally! Here is a proven, practical way to drink alcohol and lower your risk for problems. Up until now, there have been two primary messages when it comes to drinking alcohol. One is “just say no,” which for the majority of the population is not an option. The other is to “drink responsibly.” But what does that mean? If you ask five random people to define responsible drinking, you will most likely get five completely different answers. This invalidates the term because it can be defined in so many different ways. Party with a Plan® gives a concise and research based formula that teaches people how to drink and lower their risk of negative consequences. It’s like creating a speed limit for drinking. If you stick to the speed limit, your chance of problems is minimal. However, the more you go over the speed limit, and the more often you go over the speed limit, the more you put yourself and others at risk. This book is long overdue!

My “aha” Moment

I believe we all have a purpose. The trick is to be bold enough to go after it. The road to your life’s purpose is never easy and it takes strength, courage, and passion to make it happen. My purpose was to write this book. I wanted to teach people how to use alcohol in a low-risk way to keep them from falling into the pit of addiction or from making one mistake on a night of heavy drinking and doing something that would change the rest of their lives. I have watched too many good people make one mistake with alcohol and live with the consequences for years.

I am an alcoholic. I have no shame or discomfort revealing that fact. Because of the decisions I made, that is a part of who I am. I also have a severe case of ADD and writing this book took 15 years and (finally!) some medication. But here I am, stronger than ever, with greater insight, and I get to write my book and hopefully help thousands of people or more.

As I was in the middle stages of my recovery, I realized one day that one of the reasons I became an alcoholic was because no one ever taught me how to drink. In fact, there haven’t been any guidelines or specific “rules” for drinking, ever! We have rules for driving, we have rules for sports, but why not rules for drinking. It would be ridiculous to hand the keys of a car to a 16-year-old who has never driven and say, “OK, now be sure to drive responsibly.”

I did years of research and came up with the Party with a Plan® formula. I found specific guidelines that teach people how to use alcohol in a way that will keep them safe when they drink. My hope is that less people will become alcoholic or make life changing mistakes in one night of drinking.

So, this is my passion, my purpose, and my life’s work. Brooke has found one of hers through this blog. My hope for you, the reader, is that you find yours. The work getting there is tough, but once you reach the top of the mountain, the view is spectacular.
