A Vintage Death by Mary Ellen Hughes

A Vintage Death by Mary Ellen Hughes

My Thoughts

A Vintage Death by Mary Ellen Hughes is the second book in the Keepsake Cove mystery series. I adored the first book and was so excited for this one to come out. In this installment, Callie is trying to figure out who wanted a local B&B owner dead – suspicion is on his estranged wife, but Callie knows Dorothy is innocent. She sets out (along with a visiting author, Lyssa) to prove Dorothy is innocent and track down the real killer. A Vintage Death has a great balance of time spent visiting with the characters we know and love in Keepsake Cove, and sleuthing out the mystery with Callie. I felt that the clues were presented in such …

Review

Hello, readers! I’m Cris, and I’m thrilled to be posting on Brooke Blogs! I’m fairly new to blogging (I just started The Biblio Blonde this spring), but I’ve been an avid reader for years. I tend to favor women’s fiction, general literary fiction, sweet romance, and cozy mysteries. And I *love* sharing notes on what I’m reading!

A women’s …

Confessions of a Red Herring by Dana Dratch

Confessions of a Red Herring by Dana Dratch

Character Interview with Alex Vlodnachek

1) Alex, what made you want to be a reporter?

Well, I’m kind of nosy. So the idea of being able to ask questions for a living was appealing. I also felt like it was a way to contribute and make the world a little better. Plus, have you ever been in a newsroom on deadline? Electric.

2) If you could instantly solve one problem in your life, what would it be?

Let the entire world know that I didn’t kill my late boss, Everett Coleman. Or sleep with him. Or even like him.

3) What’s your go-to dinner recipe?

Pizza delivery. I know three different take-out numbers by heart.

4) What does a typical day look …

Don’t Believe It by Charlie Donlea – Guest Post

Don’t Believe It by Charlie Donlea – Guest Post

A Caribbean resort. A grisly murder. A documentary filmmaker looking for answers.

In the early ‘90s, John Grisham published a novel called The Firm. In it, a shadyMemphis law firm routinely flew its attorneys to Grand Cayman for long weekends, putting them up in the firm’s beachside condo and allowing the overworked lawyers some R&R. In reality, the firm was sending its best and brightest to the tropics to launder mob money.

The book’s island scenes were so fabulous that by the time The Firm finished selling seven million copies, Grand Cayman had morphed from a little-known island that was a mere sixty-minute flight from Miami, to one of the Caribbean’s most sought-after tropical destination. Behind the scenes, Cayman …

Love At Last by Claudia Connor – Release Day Review + Blitz

Love At Last by Claudia Connor – Release Day Review + Blitz

My Thoughts

Love At Last by Claudia Connor is a fun, sexy story of love discovered, lost, and discovered again. If you’re looking for a sweet romance with big family dynamics to lose yourself in, you can’t go wrong with a Claudia Connor book. This one is no exception.

There were a couple of issues I felt with the timeline of the story – it felt like we jumped ahead and characters made some strange choices at some parts – but overall this is a wonderful story that I found myself really enjoying. I thought there would be more detail to some parts of the story. And, in today’s world, I didn’t think the characters needed to be lost to …

Southern Discomfort by Caroline Fardig – Review

Southern Discomfort by Caroline Fardig – Review

My Thoughts

Southern Discomfort by Caroline Fardig is the first book in the Southern B&B Mystery series. I absolutely loved the Southern setting. Savannah, Georgia comes to life in this charming B&B with the Bellandini sisters, Papa Sal, and others. This colorful cast of characters, featuring Quinn and her sister Delilah, must figure out who killed a local restaurant owner. His brother (and Quinn’s friend) has been arrested for the crime, but Quinn knows he’s innocent…and she isn’t about to stand by while he sits in jail.

The mystery had a great twist at the end. The characters really brought this story together. I loved the touch of paranormal hinted at as well. I thought I had things figured out, …

Curses, Boiled Again! by Shari Randall – Release Day Review

Curses, Boiled Again! by Shari Randall – Release Day Review

My Thoughts

Oh, this was an absolutely wonderful start to a new series! Allie Larkin, a ballerina with a broken ankle, finds herself back home in Mystic Bay, helping her Aunt Gully run her new lobster shack. When a judge at a lobster roll competition winds up dead, and the other judges poisoned, Aunt Gully finds herself as a suspect. Allie, along with her BFF Verity, must figure out who really committed the crime…so they can save Aunt Gully and her lobster shack.

I was sucked into this story right away! The seaside setting of Mystic Bay and the entertaining cast of characters had me happily reading late into the night. There were plenty of twists to keep me guessing, and I …

Ginger Snapped by Gail Oust

Ginger Snapped by Gail Oust

Ginger Snapped by Gail Oust is the fifth book in the Spice Shop Mystery Series. For the past three years, I have started out each new year with Gail’s new book being my first book of the year. 🙂 I’ve come to look forward to spending the new year with Piper, Reba Mae, Wyatt, and the rest of the gang in Brandywine Creek. I found myself laughing out loud and sleuthing right along with Piper. This book is one of those mysteries that you just have a blast reading. I thoroughly enjoyed it and I am going to make it a point to go back and read books 1 & 2 since I haven’t read them yet. …

Unnatural Causes by Dawn Eastman

Unnatural Causes by Dawn Eastman

My Thoughts

Unnatural Causes by Dawn Eastman is the first book in the Dr. Katie LeClair mystery series. I found this to be a suspenseful mystery that had me juggling quite a few suspects along the way. I love the redirections thrown in and the way the story just kept growing. I thought the ending was so good! I am looking forward to more books in this series.

Margaritas, Mayhem and Murder by Mary Cunningham – Fast Five with Andi Anna Jones (and giveaway)

Margaritas, Mayhem and Murder by Mary Cunningham – Fast Five with Andi Anna Jones (and giveaway)

Fast Five with Andi Anna Jones

1) As a travel agent, you must love travel. Where are your favorite places to go?

Really? You assume I love travel? I suppose that’s a popular misconception about agents. Actually, I get so sick of hearing customer complaints, personal travel is about the last thing I want to do! And, crowded airplanes (I’m a severe claustrophic!), airports, and lost luggage? Forget it!

Well, unless it involves a white sand beach in Cancun, a handsome sheriff, and a pitcher-full of margaritas. On second thought, travel can be pretty cool!

2) How did you find yourself as an amateur sleuth?

I’ve always been interested in “sleuthing”. I watched Matlock, Murder She Wrote, and Columboreruns while …
