A Vintage Death by Mary Ellen Hughes

A Vintage Death by Mary Ellen Hughes

My Thoughts

A Vintage Death by Mary Ellen Hughes is the second book in the Keepsake Cove mystery series. I adored the first book and was so excited for this one to come out. In this installment, Callie is trying to figure out who wanted a local B&B owner dead – suspicion is on his estranged wife, but Callie knows Dorothy is innocent. She sets out (along with a visiting author, Lyssa) to prove Dorothy is innocent and track down the real killer. A Vintage Death has a great balance of time spent visiting with the characters we know and love in Keepsake Cove, and sleuthing out the mystery with Callie. I felt that the clues were presented in such …

A Hole in One by Judy Penz Sheluk

A Hole in One by Judy Penz Sheluk

Fast Five with Judy Penz Sheluk

Hi, Judy! Thank you so much for stopping by Brooke Blogs today. I am thrilled to have you here today to answer some interview questions. Congratulations on your newest release, A Hole in One!

1) What does a typical day look like for you? Do you write every day?

It varies, but when I’m working on a book, I aim for a chapter a day, five days a week. But those can be any five days, not just Monday to Friday. If I can write seven days a week, I’ll do that, too. It really depends on what else is going on in my life, but word counts, like 1,000 a day, or 50,000 in a …

Three Strikes, You’re Dead by Elena Hartwell – Eddie Shoes Character Guest Post

Three Strikes, You’re Dead by Elena Hartwell – Eddie Shoes Character Guest Post

A Private Eye, a Card-Counter, and a Giant Canine walk into a Resort…by Eddie Shoes, Private Eye (and Elena Hartwell, author).

Vacation with my mother. I can’t believe how excited I am about the prospect. Chava and I rarely went anywhere when I was a kid. Chava was a single mom and travel wasn’t something we could afford. When I left my hometown of Spokane, Washington, at eighteen, I traveled the entire west coast. It was the first time I’d left the state. I went all the way south to San Diego. I wanted to see Mexico. I even went over the border for an afternoon in Tijuana.

My father, Eduardo, is from Mexico. At least, I think that’s where …

Southern Discomfort by Caroline Fardig – Review

Southern Discomfort by Caroline Fardig – Review

My Thoughts

Southern Discomfort by Caroline Fardig is the first book in the Southern B&B Mystery series. I absolutely loved the Southern setting. Savannah, Georgia comes to life in this charming B&B with the Bellandini sisters, Papa Sal, and others. This colorful cast of characters, featuring Quinn and her sister Delilah, must figure out who killed a local restaurant owner. His brother (and Quinn’s friend) has been arrested for the crime, but Quinn knows he’s innocent…and she isn’t about to stand by while he sits in jail.

The mystery had a great twist at the end. The characters really brought this story together. I loved the touch of paranormal hinted at as well. I thought I had things figured out, …

Curses, Boiled Again! by Shari Randall – Release Day Review

Curses, Boiled Again! by Shari Randall – Release Day Review

My Thoughts

Oh, this was an absolutely wonderful start to a new series! Allie Larkin, a ballerina with a broken ankle, finds herself back home in Mystic Bay, helping her Aunt Gully run her new lobster shack. When a judge at a lobster roll competition winds up dead, and the other judges poisoned, Aunt Gully finds herself as a suspect. Allie, along with her BFF Verity, must figure out who really committed the crime…so they can save Aunt Gully and her lobster shack.

I was sucked into this story right away! The seaside setting of Mystic Bay and the entertaining cast of characters had me happily reading late into the night. There were plenty of twists to keep me guessing, and I …

Ginger Snapped by Gail Oust

Ginger Snapped by Gail Oust

Ginger Snapped by Gail Oust is the fifth book in the Spice Shop Mystery Series. For the past three years, I have started out each new year with Gail’s new book being my first book of the year. 🙂 I’ve come to look forward to spending the new year with Piper, Reba Mae, Wyatt, and the rest of the gang in Brandywine Creek. I found myself laughing out loud and sleuthing right along with Piper. This book is one of those mysteries that you just have a blast reading. I thoroughly enjoyed it and I am going to make it a point to go back and read books 1 & 2 since I haven’t read them yet. …

Mister Mottley and the Dying Fall by Ellen Seltz

Mister Mottley and the Dying Fall by Ellen Seltz

My Thoughts

Mister Mottley and the Dying Fall by Ellen Seltz is the second book in the Mottley and Baker Mysteries series. This series is set in the Golden Age and injects a fair dose of humor with mystery. In this second adventure, Mottley finds himself on another mystery-solving adventure. I had a blast reading this book. Mottley and Baker are so funny and I look forward to their wry, witty remarks. If you love mysteries in the vein of Agatha Christie, don’t pass this series by.

A Deadly Éclair by Daryl Wood Gerber – Camembert Onion and Mushroom Soup Recipe + Review + Giveaway

A Deadly Éclair by Daryl Wood Gerber – Camembert Onion and Mushroom Soup Recipe + Review + Giveaway

Traveling Meal
Soup

As our traveling feast continues, it’s time for soup. Do you love soup? I’m not big on cold soups, but I adore hot soups. I don’t get to eat soup out at restaurants very often because there are so many that are made with a roux (or gluten). That doesn’t mean I can’t cook them at home.

Since we’re still celebrating the upcoming release of the first of the French Bistro Mysteries, A DEADLY ÉCLAIR, on our tour, I thought I’d share an onion soup I make with Camembert cheese rather than the typical Gruyère cheese. Of course, the soup is loaded with onions.

FYI, I’m turned on by aromas. If I can’t rum up …

Blackberry Burial by Sharon Farrow

Blackberry Burial by Sharon Farrow

My Thoughts

Blackberry Burial by Sharon Farrow is the second book in the Berry Basket Mystery Series. The cast of characters was so delightful that I didn’t want to put this mystery down. With the weather recently taking a cold turn in Ohio, I enjoyed getting to read a summertime mystery set along the Michigan shoreline. I loved how the author wrote an exciting story right from the beginning, with things to keep me guessing the whole time. One of my favorite things about starting a cozy mystery series that is already out is knowing that I can go back and read the first book in the series and spend more time with the characters right away. I absolutely adored Blackberry …
