A Hint of Mischief by Daryl Wood Gerber – Review

A Hint of Mischief by Daryl Wood Gerber – Review

My Thoughts

I enjoyed the first two books in this series and was so excited to receive a copy of book 3 to review. A Hint Of Mischief has a lot going on in terms of character development (both with the human characters/relationships and the fairies) as well as a murder and 2 mini-mysteries: one about fairy doors and one about thefts.

One thing I really liked about this one was getting to learn more about the fairies and what they can do. It’s such a fun and whimsical element to the story and really adds a lot to the series. While I really liked this book, it did feel at times like the story wasn’t moving as quickly as it …

The Plot is Murder by V.M. Burns – Review

The Plot is Murder by V.M. Burns – Review

My Thoughts

When I requested this book from the library, I wasn’t even sure what it was about. I just knew it was the book chosen for the Cozy Escape Book Club. I started reading it and it was such an unexpected type of cozy. I absolutely loved the writing style. I really loved the inclusion of Sam’s historical mystery. I found myself just as invested in figuring out that mystery as the mystery that was actually taking place. In fact, I would love Sam’s stories to be published as a series on their own – they were that enjoyable in the little snippets throughout the book.

Sam, Nana Jo, and the girls were wonderful characters. It felt like the Golden Girls …

A Sprinkling of Murder by Daryl Wood Gerber – Review and Giveaway

A Sprinkling of Murder by Daryl Wood Gerber – Review and Giveaway

My Thoughts

A Sprinkling of Murder by Daryl Wood Gerber is everything I hoped it would be and more! From the moment I saw the cover of this magical read, I knew I was going to love it. Courtney is the owner of Open Your Imagination, a fairy garden store. She has lots of fun events, from book clubs with tea (and live harp music!) out on the patio to learning activities where participants can make their own fairy garden. One minor detail: Courtney can see fairies. Or, at least, her fairy Fiona. 🙂

Courtney is loving her life – she adores her home and is enjoying every aspect of owning her business. That is, until the night she finds …

Murder Makes Scents by Christin Brecher

Murder Makes Scents by Christin Brecher

Murder Makes Scents is the second book in the Nantucket Candle Maker Mysteries. I had the opportunity to meet Christin Brecher last summer and she was simply delightful. I was excited to have the chance to read this book (and am now going to go back and read book one). I was able to jump right into the story without having read the first book. The author did a nice job of introducing the characters and the setting to make reading this book without the first easy. I love that Stella and her mom were together in this one. One of my favorite things about the story was the characters. They’re a lot of fun.

If you …

Confessions of a Red Herring by Dana Dratch

Confessions of a Red Herring by Dana Dratch

Character Interview with Alex Vlodnachek

1) Alex, what made you want to be a reporter?

Well, I’m kind of nosy. So the idea of being able to ask questions for a living was appealing. I also felt like it was a way to contribute and make the world a little better. Plus, have you ever been in a newsroom on deadline? Electric.

2) If you could instantly solve one problem in your life, what would it be?

Let the entire world know that I didn’t kill my late boss, Everett Coleman. Or sleep with him. Or even like him.

3) What’s your go-to dinner recipe?

Pizza delivery. I know three different take-out numbers by heart.

4) What does a typical day look …

Don’t Believe It by Charlie Donlea – Guest Post

Don’t Believe It by Charlie Donlea – Guest Post

A Caribbean resort. A grisly murder. A documentary filmmaker looking for answers.

In the early ‘90s, John Grisham published a novel called The Firm. In it, a shadyMemphis law firm routinely flew its attorneys to Grand Cayman for long weekends, putting them up in the firm’s beachside condo and allowing the overworked lawyers some R&R. In reality, the firm was sending its best and brightest to the tropics to launder mob money.

The book’s island scenes were so fabulous that by the time The Firm finished selling seven million copies, Grand Cayman had morphed from a little-known island that was a mere sixty-minute flight from Miami, to one of the Caribbean’s most sought-after tropical destination. Behind the scenes, Cayman …

Blackberry Burial by Sharon Farrow

Blackberry Burial by Sharon Farrow

My Thoughts

Blackberry Burial by Sharon Farrow is the second book in the Berry Basket Mystery Series. The cast of characters was so delightful that I didn’t want to put this mystery down. With the weather recently taking a cold turn in Ohio, I enjoyed getting to read a summertime mystery set along the Michigan shoreline. I loved how the author wrote an exciting story right from the beginning, with things to keep me guessing the whole time. One of my favorite things about starting a cozy mystery series that is already out is knowing that I can go back and read the first book in the series and spend more time with the characters right away. I absolutely adored Blackberry …

Bearly Departed by Meg Macy

Bearly Departed by Meg Macy

Bearly Departed by Meg Macy is the first book in A Teddy Bear Mystery series. I was so excited to get my hands on this book. I love cozy mysteries. I love and collect Boyd’s Bears. Meg Macy did not disappoint!

Sasha manages her family’s teddy bear shop and factory. She suspects one of their employees, Will Taylor, is trying to make changes to their business for less-than-honest reasons. She even suspects him of selling their teddy bear pattern to a competitor. Will also brings up the idea of getting rid of some of their employees. No one at the Silver Bear Shop and Factory likes Will, and there have even been a few who exchanged words with …

Marriage Is Pure Murder by Staci McLaughlin

Marriage Is Pure Murder by Staci McLaughlin

Marriage Is Pure Murder by Stacie McLaughlin

is the 6th book in the Blossom Valley Mystery series. I have not read the other books in this series. However, I found it easy to jump right in where the story begins. I quickly felt like I knew the characters and the setting. This was a fast-paced and enjoyable cozy. I liked Dana; she felt very authentic and like someone I want to be friends with in real life. 🙂 I am really looking forward to going back and reading the earlier books in this series.
