Murder in Real Time by Julie Anne Lindsey – Review

Murder in Real Time by Julie Anne Lindsey – Review

My Thoughts

I was equal parts excited to read Murder in Real Time and sad that this was the last Patience Price mystery. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time on Pony Island. The characters and setting truly make this series wonderful. I absolutely love the way Julie is able to balance mystery, humor, and romance in her books, and this series is no exception.

The Patience Price mysteries are not cozy mysteries at all, though they do have an amateur sleuth and a quirky, cozy town. There is romance and more on-page violence than you would find in a cozy. This is more of what I would consider a contemporary mystery with romantic elements.

Patience finds herself embroiled in yet another …

Murder Comes Ashore by Julie Anne Lindsey – Review

Murder Comes Ashore by Julie Anne Lindsey – Review

My Review

Murder Comes Ashore is the second book in the Patience Price Mystery Series and I was super excited to read this one. Patience once again finds herself embroiled in an island mystery when body parts start washing up and new bodies are showing up as well. This story was a great balance of mystery, humor, and romance.

Between the washed-up body parts, the bodies, getting herself injured in a few different ways, the visiting Birders filing a petition against her, and the whole town taking bets on who her boyfriend is, Patience has a lot going on. Not to mention her down-low, anywhere on the island counseling service. This was a story that, whenever I needed to put it …

Murder by the Seaside by Julie Anne Lindsey – Review

Murder by the Seaside by Julie Anne Lindsey – Review

My Review

It’s no secret that Julie Anne Lindsey is one of my favorite authors. When I had the opportunity to read a revamped ARC of Murder by the Seaside for the re-release, I jumped at the chance.

Murder by the Seaside is the first Patience Price mystery. It’s more of a traditional mystery and would not be considered cozy. There was definitely a romantic element – well, two – wrapped up in the story. There was more danger and criminal activity and details than a cozy. I really enjoyed this book. I did figure out whodunit shortly before the reveal, but loved seeing it play out.

The mystery was intense and kept me reading. There were so many times I laughed out …

The Last Line by Robert Dugoni – Review, Author Q&A + Giveaway

The Last Line by Robert Dugoni – Review, Author Q&A + Giveaway

My Thoughts

The Last Line by Robert Dugoni is a short suspense/thriller story featuring Detective Del Castigliano working his first case as a homicide detective in Seattle, WA. I have read an earlier short story as well as the first book in the Tracy Crosswhite series, but it has been about 7 years since I read them. Still, you can absolutely read this as a standalone short story/prequel. This story takes place before Tracy arrives at the Seattle PD. It will definitely whet your appetite for the series!

The Last Line hooks you right from the beginning – the mystery of two bodies that appeared to be drowning victims coupled with Del attempting to build a new life in Seattle and …

Murder in Devil’s Cove by Melissa Bourbon

Murder in Devil’s Cove by Melissa Bourbon

Murder in Devil’s Cove by Melissa Bourbon is a book I have been eagerly anticipating every since I saw the title and read the blurb. The storyline is eerie and unique and I love how I felt like I didn’t know how it was going to play out. Once I sat down and started reading this one, I was hooked. I really appreciated the family tree as well as the map of the town at the beginning of the book. Those little details really help bring the story alive. Magic plus an entertaining mystery pulled me in and wouldn’t let me go. I want to visit Devil’s Cove and get wrapped up in the magic and mystery. This is …

1st Shock by Misty Evans & Adrienne Giordano – Review

1st Shock by Misty Evans & Adrienne Giordano – Review

My Thoughts

This book had me hooked from the start. I have my degree in criminal justice and love shows like Criminal Minds. 1st Shock was an awesome story and I didn’t want to put it down. The Schock sisters’ knowledge of a previous killer as well as the cold cases they are working on lead them toward a potential serial killer. This book was exciting and had elements of suspense and romance in addition to being a psychological thriller. I can’t wait to read book 2.

Kitty Confidential by Molly Fitz – Review

Kitty Confidential by Molly Fitz – Review

My Thoughts

After an accident with an old coffeemaker, Angie finds herself talking to a wealthy, spoiled cat. This was a quick read that had me laughing out loud in many parts. Octo-Cat is hilarious! He is snarky, witty, and confused by humans. He is exactly what I envision a talking cat would sound like. The murder mystery aspect was well-written. I loved this story and look forward to reading more in the series.

Dangerous Habits by Susan Hunter – Review

Dangerous Habits by Susan Hunter – Review

My Thoughts

Dangerous Habits by Susan Hunter is the first book in the Leah Nash mystery series. I wouldn’t call this a cozy mystery book, but a regular mystery. There’s a lot more action, as well as some situations that wouldn’t occur in a cozy mystery.

Dangerous Habits is set in small-town Wisconsin where Leah has returned home to work at the newspaper where she got her start. She lives with her mom. Leah is a great character. She’s intelligent but she tends to run her mouth a bit more than she should…she doesn’t have a filter and her mouth is usually what gets her in trouble. That, and her inability to let something go when she has a niggling idea.

There …

My Thoughts

This holiday story from Robin Covington is sexy, short and sweet. Perfect for curling up in front of the Christmas tree after a busy day. I read this story while waiting in the emergency room with my boyfriend. It really sucked me in and kept my attention, even with all that was going on. I was so grateful to have this book on my Kindle!

Tessa and Nick had incredible chemistry. I liked that there was just enough of a backstory and conflict for a short story before diving into the heat. If you like hot quickies, you’ll love Secret Santa Baby by Robin Covington.

Eleven by Carolyn Arnold – Book Review

Eleven by Carolyn Arnold – Book Review

Eleven by Carolyn Arnold is the first installment in the Brandon Fisher FBI series. Brandon is a new agent, still in his probationary period, when his team is called in on a grisly discovery. As the agents delve deeper into the case, things get personal.

I liked the author’s writing style. If I’m reading and I have to stop, I always try to get to the end of a chapter before stopping. However, with Eleven, it felt like the end of each chapter was a tiny cliffhanger and I needed to keep reading on. The novel felt realistic to me. It reminded me of watching episodes of some of my favorite television shows. The characters felt well-developed, and there were lots …
