Hell hath no fury like a goddess scorned…

As Champion, Carita of Bel Auryn thought she would spend her days fighting demons. Instead, she is drawn into the latest scheme of the Moon Goddess, Ruby: a contest to choose a man who will have the “honour” of fathering her child. When Ruby encourages Carita to choose a man for herself, she picks the man she is most drawn to–and immediately regrets it.

Lucian Veradayne is the Lord of Death. He knows he must win Ruby’s game at any cost. It doesn’t matter that he has avoided her for two thousand years. Nor that she tried to kill their first child. And it really doesn’t matter that he would much rather woo Carita. The Soul Well has given Lucian a prophecy: he and Ruby must have another child. A child who will save the world.

Dealing with their mutual attraction will be the least of Lucian and Carita’s problems. They are not the only ones who have been drawn into Ruby’s game. Someone else wants to win. Someone who wants Ruby dead. Will Carita and Lucian be able to protect her long enough for a victor to be named? And if they succeed, will they be able to walk away from each other to ensure the prophecy is fulfilled?

Sealer’s Game is a 55,000 word fantasy romance novella about the King of the Underworld, a kick-butt warrior priestess, and a ruthless goddess who will stop at nothing to get her own way. It contains language, descriptions of violence, and sexual themes that may not be appropriate for all readers. Recommended for ages 18+.

“Shouldn’t you be sitting with Ruby?” Lucian asked.

“I’m sure she’d just love watching me clean this off.” Carita forced herself to stay focused on polishing her sword. There was no way she could meet his gaze right now. Not after what she had just done.

“Are you sure?” Lucian asked, “After what I just witnessed, I wouldn’t be surprised if she wanted to lick the blood off your blade.”

Carita almost dropped the sword. Looking over at Lucian, she tried to piece together what he had just said. “That’s disgusting.”

“But true.” Lucian countered, scooting closer and putting an arm around her shoulders. “Sealers drink blood for various rituals. Considering she took Jerriah’s soul, she likely views the blood on your sword as her property.”

Carita’s breakfast, which had been slowly inching its way up her stomach, now threatened to spill on the ground. Was he serious or pulling her leg?

“What’s a Sealer?” she asked, desperate to change the subject.

Something flickered in Lucian’s eyes, like her question had caught him off guard.

“That’s what the Gods actually are. It’s their species, like a bear or a rabbit or a Kindred.” Lucian moved his hand down her back, trailing small circles against her skin. “Damn you’re tense. Was that your first kill?”

“Yes.” Carita glanced at the arena to see how the two men fighting were doing, but quickly looked away when she spotted Jerriah’s discarded corpse lying in a corner. “It wasn’t what I expected.”

“What do you mean?” Lucian picked up a pitcher of wine. Pouring some into a goblet, he handed it to Carita.

“I never thought I’d have to hurt anyone unless they were hurting someone else,” Carita said, taking the goblet. “Killing should be a last resort.”

“Is that why you waited until Jerriah put his own eyes out?” Lucian poured himself some wine and took a long swig. “Just curious.”

“Are you mocking me?” Carita’s wine sloshed around, a few drops landing on her tunic. “You saw what happened out there. I had no choice.”

“There is always a choice.” Lucian tilted his head back and drank his wine in one big gulp. “The question is, did you make the right one?”
