Send in the Clowns by Julie Mulhern
The Country Club Murders Book 4
Haunted houses are scary enough without knife-wielding clowns. Especially murderous knife-wielding clowns. So thinks Ellison Russell, single mother, artist, and reluctant sleuth.
Now death wears a red nose and Ellison is up to the blood-stained collar of her new trench coat in costumes, caffeine, and possible killers. Who stabbed Brooks Harney? And why? Money? Jealousy? Drugs?
With Mother meddling, her father furious, and her date dragged downtown for questioning, turns out Ellison’s only confidante is Mr. Coffee.

A conversation with Libba and Ellison
“Boots. It’s all about boots.” Libba fixed her gaze on my new pair. “Gucci?”
I nodded, suddenly grateful that my best friend’s feet were a full size larger than mine.
“I saw a dreamy coat in the window at Hall’s.” She clasped her hands and held them in front of her heart.
“Oh?” I had more on my mind that boots and coats.
“Bill Blass. It’s a brocade with a fur collar.”
“Sounds lovely,” I murmured.
“You are a million miles away. Since when do you not care about clothes?”
Since I witnessed another murder. Try as I might, I couldn’t convey to Libba the horror of seeing one clown stab another. “The clown—”
“I don’t want to hear another word about creepy clowns. You’re nearly forty. Try being afraid of something real—like wrinkles or saggy arms.”
Libba had a point. But, try as I might, the thought of wrinkles didn’t induce terror the way a man in a fuzzy wig and rubber nose did. “It was awful.”
“I’m sure it was. But it’s over now.” She finished the last sip of wine in her glass and waved at the waiter. “It’s not as if the clown is going to show up at your house.”
I hate it when Libba’s wrong.
Send in the Clowns by Julie Mulhern is the 4th book in the Country Club Murder series. I enjoyed Ellison and this book so much! I even went back to read the first book in the series after I finished Send in the Clowns. Ellison is fabulous. One of my all-time favorite cozy characters. And the 1970s setting is absolutely perfect. Love, love, love everything about this series. I cannot wait to read the earlier books as well as new releases. Ms. Mulhern does an incredible job of crafting a believable mystery, with enough twists and turns to keep you guessing throughout the book. This series is on my must-buy, must-read list. 🙂

Clowns are the thing that creep me out the most. With all the evil clown activity going on lately, makes this book extra scary.

Book sounds like a good read. Clowns and a haunted house just seem to go together.
