Even dragons can’t resist a good story…

Even though Leo would rather sit at home and read, his parents send him out into the world in the hopes that Leo will become a famous knight. But when Leo comes up against the land’s most fearsome beasts, he soon discovers that scary monsters enjoy a good book as much as anyone…

My Thoughts

The Storybook Knight by Helen Docherty, with illustrations by Thomas Docherty, is a richly imagined journey into the world of a little mouse who also happens to be a knight. Leo the knight loves to read. He does not like to fight. When his parents send him off with a new sword and shield to fight a dragon, Leo doesn’t know what to expect. But the old adage that the pen is mightier than the sword might just help Leo along on his adventure.

I thoroughly enjoyed The Storybook Knight by Helen Docherty and my four year old did, too. Leo is adorable and I loved the message of the story. The text flowed and rhymed and was just wonderful. The illustrations are beautiful and we spent a long time looking at each page. The Storybook Knight by Helen Docherty has everything a children’s picture book should: fantastic illustrations, incredible text and an easy-to-understand story that packs a powerful message and can be enjoyed by both children and adults. I will definitely be seeking out more books from Helen Docherty, and hope to order this one for my collection at the public library where I work.
