Love is the most powerful force. I’ve always known this. I believe it still. Love will be the final victor – no matter what. It’s the best part of us. The deepest and strongest part of us. If we could all just let love work its magic, trust that which we can’t see, and be able to mute the world’s interferences and cerebral messages, mute the greed and jealousy and insecurities, love would deliver us to the happiness we all crave. Unfortunately, most of us muck the whole process up by insisting on taking control with our less than omniscient minds, our plebian drives, and before we know it, the hearts that guide us end up behind walls we erect to keep them safe.

Reese Bristow, the newly appointed Santa Raquel Fire Chief, is a classic case of missing happiness due to a need to control. He thought he could lead with his mind – that he’d just face fire and win. He thought he could dictate how love would work. He ended up married, determined to love his wife, and finding out that…love just wasn’t there.

For Reese, love was someplace else – right where he’d left it. And while this makes him sound a bit daft, Reese is really a great guy. One of the truly good ones. He stole my heart and I wasn’t open to giving it to him.
