Top Five Romantic Comedies
by Melissa Baldwin
Oh, how I wish that someday one of my books would be made into a movie. A girl can dream, right? One of my dreams is to have the hit romantic comedy of the year starring some of my favorite A-list actors. So this got me thinking about some of my favorite romantic comedies. Here are my top five choices and maybe someday one of my books (or all of my books) will make a list like this?
1.) How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days– I think this one is my favorite! Who doesn’t love Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson? I thought their chemistry was off the charts. The way they are both playing each other but then fall in love in the process. Throw in some crazy friends and you have romantic comedy success!
2.) The Wedding Planner– This movie put Matthew McConaughey on the map for me. Again he has fantastic chemistry with his co-star Jennifer Lopez. This is one movie that I can watch over and over again. And who doesn’t love some good wedding drama? (BTW-Have you read my novel Wedding Haters yet? 🙂
3.) 13 Going on 30– I think this movie counts as a romantic comedy? (If not its still a great one.) Jennifer Garner is awesome and I love the beginning when it portrays her as a child of the 80’s because I too am a child of the 80’s. (No I won’t share my age 🙂 ) Our beloved main character chooses the life she thinks she wants but then, in the end, learns that those choices led her to unhappiness and loneliness. There’s still hope though and if she changes her ways, she could still have a happily ever after.
4.) My Best Friend’s Wedding– This is a classic! Wow, I really do love some good wedding drama. Julia Roberts is fantastic as she plays the best friend/maid of honor who makes a play for the groom. Spoiler Alert: It isn’t exactly a happy ending for her but this movie is still one of the best.
5.) Love Actually– I love these British comedies! In this one, the lives of several characters are intertwined and it’s all about love. There are moments that you want to laugh and some that you want to cry. Not to mention some Christmas joy and it even features one of Mariah Carey’s best songs- All I want for Christmas is You.
Honorable Mention: Bridesmaids– For obvious reasons.
This list is full of romantic comedy magic and it inspires me to keep writing what I love. 🙂
