Summer has made its way up the mountain to Clear Creek, and with the new season, the town is offering a slew of summer classes at the community center. Happy to participate, Jemma and her yarn shop sponsor a fiber-dying class taught by her oldest friend, Kitty.
When a mysterious man walks into class, something about him pulls Jemma into a tangle. Learning Kitty once knew him, Jemma has questions — but her friend is staying mum. Then Jemma goes on an early-morning walk and discovers the man dead.
This time, Jemma’s determined to stay out of the investigation — until she learns that because of a past she’s been hiding, Kitty is the main suspect! Unwilling to turn her back on her friend, Jemma starts looking for a dropped stitch.
Because somewhere, there’s a person with dye on their hands.
Who’s Your Favorite Character?
One of the questions I get asked the most is: Who’s your favorite character from the Clear Creek Mysteries?
I’m never quite sure how to answer — choosing a favorite character is like choosing a favorite child — so I end up telling them something I love about a couple of the characters. I thought it would be fitting to introduce you to some of these imaginary friends of mine and give you a peek at what I love about them.
If you’ve read The Yarn That Binds, the first book in the series, you’ve already met these characters. If not, you can meet them in A Hill to Dye On!
I should start with Jemma, since she’s our main character. Some of my favorite things about her include the fact that she spent fifteen years traveling. Literally living out of a suitcase as she saw amazing places throughout the world. I’m a bit of a hippie, and I regularly feel that wanderlust, so it sounds amazing to me. Jemma also is very close with her grandmother. As any yarnie does, on her travels Jemma always searched out interesting yarns to send home to Mary.
Next we have Kitty. Kitty grew up in the small town where our series takes place and looked forward to Jemma coming to spend summers with her grandmother. She’s one of the most loyal friends you could ask for! You’ll be learning a lot more about her in this book.
Emmilene is fairly new to town, but she made a place for herself with grace and ease. My favorite thing about her is her Southernisms. I have so much fun finding just the right thing for her to say.
Granny is the woman I hope to be when I’m her age. Full of fun and energy, she’s always up for an adventure — even if she has to cause all sorts of trouble just to create it.
We might be talking about Brandon last, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t a favorite! The things I love about Brandon are a never-ending list, but at the top of it are his kindness and generosity. He goes out of his way to help everyone in town, but if Jemma needs help, everyone else will have to wait.
Have you had a chance to meet these characters? I’d love to know who your favorite is! Or, if you’re like me and can’t choose, was there something about each of the characters that stood out to you?
If you haven’t met them yet, I hope you’re able to make friends with them once you do.
