There’s no reason for Ivy to get involved. She’s busy enough holding down the fort as the shop’s owner, Olaya, cares for her recently orphaned niece, not to mention the stress when a new employee is fired and storms out in a rage. Then a band of rabble-rousers starts picketing the bakery, claiming that Olaya’s sourdough roll is what killed Josh—and Ivy hears some salacious gossip about her beloved boss. She doesn’t think there’s a grain of truth to the seedy rumors—but to prove it, she’ll have to start sleuthing . . .
Lavender Tea Bread
Ingredients
· ¾ cup milk
· 3 tablespoons finely chopped fresh lavender
· 6 tablespoons butter, softened
· 1 cup white sugar
· 2 eggs
· 2 cups all-purpose flour
· 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
· ¼ teaspoon salt
Directions
1. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees. Grease and flour a 9×5 inch loaf pan.
2. Combine the milk and lavender in a small saucepan over medium heat. Heat to a simmer, then remove from heat, and allow to cool slightly.
3. In a medium bowl, cream together butter and sugar. Beat in the egg until the mixture is light and fluffy.
4. Combine the flour, baking powder, and salt.
5. Stir into the creamed mixture alternately with the milk and lavender until just blended. Pour into the prepared pan.
6. Bake for 50 minutes at 350 degrees, or until a wooden pick inserted into the loaf comes out clean.
7. Cool before serving.
