NATURE’S WAY MARKET AND CAFE SELLS HEALTHY FOODS AND NATURAL CURES FOR WHAT AILS YOU. BUT THERE IS NO CURE FOR MURDER. . . .
Even naturopathic doctors need a little stress relief–that’s why Willow McQuade, ND, takes a break to visit her Aunt Clair, owner of Nature’s Way Market and Cafe, on Long Island’s North Fork. But Willow’s serenity is shattered when she finds her aunt’s lifeless body on the market floor, a bottle of Mimulus lying nearby. Taken to calm one’s fear of misfortune, the flower essence clearly failed Aunt Claire . . . for her death was no accident.
But who would want to kill her? The police soon zero in on Willow herself, who stands to inherit Claire’s business and the rights to a breakthrough anti-aging cream. Desperate to prove her innocence, Willow turns to former police officer Jackson Spade for help. Together they unearth a slew of suspects, each with something to gain by Claire’s unnatural demise. But as Willow gets closer to the truth, a killer waits to administer one final dose of death.
Death Drops by Chrystle Fiedler is the first in a new naturopathic cozy mystery series. In this book, we are introduced to Willow McQuade, a naturopathic doctor, who discovers her aunt dead and sets out to solve the mystery. Along the way, we are given natural remedies at the beginning of each chapter, which I liked. I didn’t find it too distracting to read natural remedies throughout the book either, as I felt they had their place. While the book could have been a little better, I did like the story. I think the mystery was enough to keep my interest piqued. I also enjoyed the characters, including Jackson Spade, a detective off of work on disability, who agrees to help Willow work on the case. I liked the inclusion of Aunt Claire’s cats, Gingko and Ginger, and a stray dog Willow adopts and names Qigong. If you’re looking to start a new cozy series, check this one out. I liked that it was unique with its natural remedies angle.
