I have a confession to make: I love watching the Olympic Games. The Rio 2016 Olympic Games have me captivated. It is so inspiring to watch incredibly talented athletes from all over the world come together to compete. Side Note: I cry during the Olympic Games – a lot. It is amazing to watch the triumphs and (sometimes, failures) of the world’s most talented athletes. My favorite events are gymnastics, swimming and track & field.

keiratrackletspowertheirdreams2Now, just a few years ago, I may not have included track & field among my favorites. But ever since my older daughter, Keira started running her 7th grade year, any running events are on the top of my list. Keira runs cross country and track. She is going into 9th grade, and I am so excited to see her competing at the high school level. During track season, since she is a cross country runner, she typically runs distance: the 1600, the 800, or distance medley, though she also will run the 4×800 and 4×400 relays. She has great endurance from cross country, and that really helps her power through at track meets. Her speed has increased as well. It is so exhilarating to watch her compete. It’s amazing to see my “little girl” running and competing and succeeding.

keiratrackletspowertheirdreamsThis photo is one I will cherish forever. It’s from a track meet where conditions were yucky. It was cold and raining. I wasn’t even sure if I would have a chance to leave work to see Keira run. Luckily, we had enough people and I was able to sneak down to the track. I’m so glad I had the opportunity to watch her. Before the meet, she told me she would run even harder if I wasn’t there. I told her to run her best, and she did! Keira really put it all out there. She overcame this girl and finished 2nd in both the 1600 and the 800, and had her best times of the whole track season. My favorite part: she was so proud of herself! And I was one proud mama. My eyes were full of tears, but we both had big smiles on our faces all evening. My heart was filled with joy for Keira’s successes. She is so dedicated to running. I love that watching the Olympic Games together allows her to see dedication and hard work paying off at the topmost level.

  1. I am ashamed to admit that I haven’t been watching the games actively this time around. I never get to the TV! But I’m paying attention to all of the social media posts, and I’m proud to see so many golds, silvers, bronzes coming home to the US!

    1. It’s so awesome how much social media has changed how we follow sports~it’s neat to see things on Facebook/Twitter/Instagram and get an update. I love following the medal count, too, Lydia! It’s one of my first online stops in the morning. 🙂 Thank you for commenting!
