Writer and amateur sleuth Peggy Rector returns home to a full plate following a star-studded vacation in the English countryside. She needs to finish her latest book and plan her wedding to the hunky Jess Carson, all while her children plot to convert her rambling Victorian house into a B&B.
When Velma Whittaker, a local genealogist, dies under mysterious circumstances, Peggy must puzzle out who wanted Velma dead and why? Was it her multi-million-dollar lottery win or something more? A search for Velma’s will turns up a cryptic clue left for her heirs, but are they up to the challenge?
Peggy and her gang, members of the Stinky Springs Ladies Social Club, are on the trail. They must outfox a crafty killer while dodging Velma’s hapless relatives, who are determined to get their hands on her money.
Miss Marilyn Monroe is a high-powered Houston lawyer with a flair for cocktails, both liquid and edible. She loves Chocolate Martinis and this fabulous shrimp cocktail.
Marilyn’s Mexican Shrimp Cocktail
This is a delightful, refreshing shrimp cocktail. It can be a light lunch or served as an appetizer.
1 lb large wild caught gulf shrimp in the shell
¼ cup tequila
¼ cup fresh lime juice
¼ cup fresh orange juice
2 Tbsp ketchup
2 Tbsp hot sauce, green tabasco or jalapeno hot sauce
Salt and pepper to taste
2 cups tomatoes, diced
2 avocados, pitted and diced
1 bunch scallions, thinly sliced
1 small white onion, finely diced
Lime wedges for garnish
Cook the shrimp (grill or boil) until just pink. Let cool. Peel and cut into large pieces.
Mix tequila, juices, ketchup and hot sauce. Add shrimp. Cover and refrigerate for one hour.
When ready to serve, fold together the tomatoes, avocado, scallions, onions and the shrimp mix. Spoon into serving glasses or bowls. Garnish with a wedge of lime. Serve immediately.
