Ginger Snapped by Gail Oust

Ginger Snapped by Gail Oust

Ginger Snapped by Gail Oust is the fifth book in the Spice Shop Mystery Series. For the past three years, I have started out each new year with Gail’s new book being my first book of the year. 🙂 I’ve come to look forward to spending the new year with Piper, Reba Mae, Wyatt, and the rest of the gang in Brandywine Creek. I found myself laughing out loud and sleuthing right along with Piper. This book is one of those mysteries that you just have a blast reading. I thoroughly enjoyed it and I am going to make it a point to go back and read books 1 & 2 since I haven’t read them yet. …

Mister Mottley and the Dying Fall by Ellen Seltz

Mister Mottley and the Dying Fall by Ellen Seltz

My Thoughts

Mister Mottley and the Dying Fall by Ellen Seltz is the second book in the Mottley and Baker Mysteries series. This series is set in the Golden Age and injects a fair dose of humor with mystery. In this second adventure, Mottley finds himself on another mystery-solving adventure. I had a blast reading this book. Mottley and Baker are so funny and I look forward to their wry, witty remarks. If you love mysteries in the vein of Agatha Christie, don’t pass this series by.

A Deadly Éclair by Daryl Wood Gerber – Camembert Onion and Mushroom Soup Recipe + Review + Giveaway

A Deadly Éclair by Daryl Wood Gerber – Camembert Onion and Mushroom Soup Recipe + Review + Giveaway

Traveling Meal
Soup

As our traveling feast continues, it’s time for soup. Do you love soup? I’m not big on cold soups, but I adore hot soups. I don’t get to eat soup out at restaurants very often because there are so many that are made with a roux (or gluten). That doesn’t mean I can’t cook them at home.

Since we’re still celebrating the upcoming release of the first of the French Bistro Mysteries, A DEADLY ÉCLAIR, on our tour, I thought I’d share an onion soup I make with Camembert cheese rather than the typical Gruyère cheese. Of course, the soup is loaded with onions.

FYI, I’m turned on by aromas. If I can’t rum up …

Blackberry Burial by Sharon Farrow

Blackberry Burial by Sharon Farrow

My Thoughts

Blackberry Burial by Sharon Farrow is the second book in the Berry Basket Mystery Series. The cast of characters was so delightful that I didn’t want to put this mystery down. With the weather recently taking a cold turn in Ohio, I enjoyed getting to read a summertime mystery set along the Michigan shoreline. I loved how the author wrote an exciting story right from the beginning, with things to keep me guessing the whole time. One of my favorite things about starting a cozy mystery series that is already out is knowing that I can go back and read the first book in the series and spend more time with the characters right away. I absolutely adored Blackberry …

Seashells, Spells & Caramels by Erin Johnson – Review + 2 Giveaways

Seashells, Spells & Caramels by Erin Johnson – Review + 2 Giveaways

My Thoughts

Seashells, Spells & Caramels is the first book in a new paranormal cozy mystery series by Erin Johnson. I quickly found myself drawn into this magical tale. Imogen has been saving for years chasing her dream of opening her very own bakery. But when her dreams go up in smoke, she’s forced to reevaluate. She isn’t quite sure how she managed to enter a magical baking contest, but the ability to go to the contest presents itself at exactly the right time.

I totally loved this magical cozy mystery. I loved Imogen and Maple. Iggy was also an awesome character on his own. This was such a great story. I didn’t want to put it down. …

A Room with a Brew by Joyce Tremel

A Room with a Brew by Joyce Tremel

A Room with a Brew by Joyce Tremel is the third book in the Brewing Trouble Mystery series. This story is set in the fall in Pittsburgh and centers around Oktoberfest. I haven’t read the first two books in this series. However, I found myself quickly drawn into Max’s world and easily able to lose myself in the story. One of my favorite things about this story is the setting. I live in eastern Ohio, but the closest city to me is Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I enjoyed all the “Pittsburghese” in the book: words you only hear in Pittsburgh and the surrounding areas. Yinz is a part of our vocabulary here as well. 🙂

Max’s intelligence, sincerity, and …

A Christmas Peril by J.A. Hennrikus

A Christmas Peril by J.A. Hennrikus

A Christmas Peril by J.A. Hennrikus is the first book in the Theater Copy Mystery series. Our main character, Sully, used to be a police officer, but now manages a theater in her hometown. She hasn’t had to deal with crime in several years. But when a prominent citizen is murdered, and a childhood friend is the prime suspect, Sully knows she has to help.

This cozy mystery is a lot of fun to read. I love the theater as a background setting and all of the quirky characters. I liked Sully right away. Christmas stories always make me happy, and this is a perfect one to read around the holiday.

There was some mild language in this book, …

Cat About Town by Cate Conte

Cat About Town by Cate Conte

My Thoughts

I was absolutely delighted to curl up and read Cat About Town by Cate Conte. This is the first book in the new Cat Cafe mystery series, and boy did the author deliver. This cozy mystery had everything I love: a great mystery, a main character I liked, and a cat who was full of personality.

If you are a mystery lover and a cat lover, you will absolutely love this story as much as I did. This mystery kept me guessing. With an unsavory character as the victim, there was no shortage of suspects to keep me wondering who was guilty. JJ the cat stole the show. He was a great addition to the story. I like …

A Crime of Passion Fruit by Ellie Alexander – Guest Post + Giveaway

A Crime of Passion Fruit by Ellie Alexander – Guest Post + Giveaway

Guest Post

Thanks so much for having me on today to talk about the 6th book in the Bakeshop Mysteries, A Crime of Passion Fruit. A few years ago, I was chatting with my editor about the series and said in passing something like, “At some point I want to send Jules back to the sea in a book to close out her past and because think of all the delicious tropical recipes I would have sample for research.” She replied, “Yes! And if you do, you can call it A Crime of Passion Fruit.” Hence a book idea was born.

Not only did I love the title she came up with, but I also loved the idea …
