Happy New Year!

The First Book of the Year 2017

I just love the start of a new year. Everything feels so fresh and open. A whole new year in this crazy life is laid out in front of me, just waiting! I feel like there are so many wonderful things ahead in 2017. One of my favorite things to do is to join Sheila at Book Journey for The First Book of the Year 2017. What will be the first book you are reading in 2017? I’d love to know!

Say Goodbye for Now First book of the year 2017

Say Goodbye for Now by Catherine Ryan Hyde

Lake Union Publishing
December 13, 2016

On an isolated Texas ranch, Dr. Lucy cares for abandoned animals. The solitude allows her to avoid the people and places that remind her of the past. Not that any of the townsfolk care. In 1959, no one is interested in a woman doctor. Nor are they welcoming Calvin and Justin Bell, a newly arrived African American father and son.

When Pete Solomon, a neglected twelve-year-old boy, and Justin bring a wounded wolf-dog hybrid to Dr. Lucy, the outcasts soon find refuge in one another. Lucy never thought she’d make connections again, never mind fall in love. Pete never imagined he’d find friends as loyal as Justin and the dog. But these four people aren’t allowed to be friends, much less a family, when the whole town turns violently against them.

With heavy hearts, Dr. Lucy and Pete say goodbye to Calvin and Justin. But through the years they keep hope alive…waiting for the world to catch up with them.

  1. My first book for 2017 is…Jenny Kales’s “On the Chopping Block.” I loved her new book “Spiced and Iced” and needed to go back to the beginning. Then…there is a list of new and old books I can’t wait to read!

      1. “Spiced and Iced” is great, and after finishing “On the Chopping Clock,” I’m posting a review & interview on Kings River Life magazine. Jenny Kales has been a delight with which to connect.

  2. What a great book to start with! I hope you enjoy it. I am hoping to finish one I carried over with me into the New Year and then start another one tonight. Hopefully it will be a fruitful year in reading for all of us. 🙂 Have a Happy New Year!

  3. Happy New Year, Brooke. The first book I’m reading in 2017 is “Three May Keep a Secret” by Susan Van Kirk.

      1. So far it’s a really good read. Thanks so much for the Christmas card. It was a nice surprise. Hope you and your family have a great New Year.

  4. I actually have two going at the same time. The first is Death of a Christmas Caterer by Lee Hollis in paperback and the second is Mug Shot by Caroline Fardig on my Kindle. They are both from great series’. Happy Reading to everyone!

      1. Unfortunately my mom saw me looking at Death of a Christmas Caterer and snagged it! I’m now on the search for a new paperback to read!! LOL!

  5. I finished a book I started during December but the first book I will read entirely in 2017 is No Living Soul by Julie Moffet

  6. Great choice to start the new year. I’m reading Devil In The Grass by Chris Bowron. It’s a southern thriller and good so far.

  7. This sounds really good. I don’t think I’ve read anything by her yet.

Thanks for stopping by my blog. Happy New Year!
