A Superstition Mystery #3

Rory Chasen, manager of the Lucky Dog Boutique in Destiny, California, hopes her new line of good-luck doggy toys will be a hit, especially the stuffed rabbits with extra-large feet. The timing of the line’s debut proves ill-fated, though, as several local shops―including Rory’s―are ransacked and vandalized with spilled salt and other unlucky charms.

The most likely culprit is disgruntled real estate agent Flora Curtival, whose issues with the town give her a motive. But when Flora is murdered and one of Rory’s toy rabbits is found with the body, Rory needs all the luck she can get while trying to determine just who killed the superstitious vandal.

Please welcome Linda O. Johnston, author of Unlucky Charms, to Brooke Blogs. She is here with a fun guest post. Thank you so much for being here, Linda!

Hi, everyone. I’m delighted to be here at Brooke Blogs to introduce my new book, UNLUCKY CHARMS.

UNLUCKY CHARMS is the third Superstition Mystery. It’s set in the town of superstitions: Destiny, California. Protagonist Rory Chasen moved to Destiny a while ago when she’d gone there to check out the truth of superstitions, since her fiancé died after walking under a ladder. And now, months later, she’s thinking about settling down there. She’s been living in a bed and breakfast but is thinking about renting a place with her good friend Gemma Grayfield, who has joined her in town.

Plus, Rory has designed some fun pet toys to be sold in the Lucky Dog Boutique, where she works.

But all of these things lead to a murder in Destiny. Ahh, you expected it. After all, the Superstition Mysteries are cozies, and Rory, who never anticipated becoming an amateur sleuth, has another mystery to solve. And this time she particularly has to be successful. Can you guess who the main suspect is?

So how did I come up with the idea of Superstition Mysteries? Not exactly sure, though I’d had the idea for a while before I started plotting it. I’d been a writer for a long time and already had been writing some other cozy mysteries. Best I can recall, I’d crossed my fingers or knocked on wood, my mind started working… and then, there it was: a theme for a new mystery series!

I also write romances, so of course Rory had to develop a new romantic interest even after the loss of her fiancé. That happens to be Destiny Police Chief Justin Halbertson.

And can you imagine the fun I have researching the Superstition Mysteries? I have to learn all about what’s lucky, what’s not, and what is lucky in some cultures and not in others. Do I make up superstitions? Well, maybe a little. And do I believe in them all? I think I’m still a superstition agnostic, like Rory.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy UNLUCKY CHARMS. And remember: it’s good luck to read the Superstition Mysteries!
